A Typical Day in Mini Montys

If your child is a toddler encourage him/her to walk into school.  Please take appropriate road safety precautions in crossing from the car park.

On your arrival at the Infants side entrance press the silver button on the voice entry system. A member of staff from Mini Monty’s will see you on the monitor and will ask you to identify yourself before letting you in. Please do not allow anyone entry if you do not know them.

In the cloakroom you will find your child’s tray and peg labelled with their forename. Here you can put nappies, a change of clothes (often needed after wet play) and any other of your child’s personal items.

During wet or snowy weather it is advisable to bring toddlers in wearing their wellies and then change them into shoes, which give support for growing feet.

From the cloakroom you will be able to see into Mini Montys. Please knock at the door, as it will be locked. A member of staff will greet you and your child. They will be happy to hear of any ups and downs your child has had, e.g. a sleepless night, teething problems, etc.

If you are leaving milk for your child, ask a member of staff to put it in the fridge in Mini Montys kitchen.

Throughout the day we follow your child’s daily routine, but for general guidance, breakfast is at 8.00am. For those still hungry or children who have already eaten at home, a norning snack is served at about 9.30am.

Lunch takes place between 11.45am and 12.30pm. There is an afternoon snack at 2.00pm and dinner is late afternoon between 3.45pm and 4.30pm.

Meals are a very social occasion. High chairs are moved into a semi-circle and toddlers sit together at their child-sized table. Teachers feed the children and while doing so, talk and laugh with them. All Mini Montys children are encouraged to have good manners and share while passing food to each other.

When children are not eating, sleeping, being changed or having their bottles, they can enjoy all of the Montessori equipment, toys and games at their disposal in Mini Monty’s.

Mini Monty’s children also have the advantage of using other facilities throughout the school.

All children are assigned a ‘key worker’ who will initially be responsible for settling new children in and ensuring their individual needs are met.

In any one day they can be found baking in the children’s kitchen, creating some wonderful pieces in the art room, enjoying the home corner in Monty Minders, climbing on the toddler gym in the dance studio (where their favourite activity is the slides, swings, beams etc).  They can also have a session with the music teacher in one of the two music rooms or listen to a story in the library.

Mini Monty's children enjoy using the outdoor areas – Green Monty’s environment area and or Sport Montys all-weather surface.

General Comments Regarding Mini Montys

As toddlers prepare to move into Nursery you will be invited to look around the Nursery and meet the staff. Your child will have a number of visits to Nursery to gauge whether they are ready for the move. This usually happens around the age of 2 ½ years. As preparation for Nursery, older Mini Monty's children begin to have lunch with the children from Nursery. We will let you know when this begins.

Sleep time for children occurs when they are tired; we also look to you for guidance on their sleep patterns.

All meals in Mini Montys are freshly prepared by our cook.  Everything is ‘home-made’.

Children have regular walks in and around the school and outside in the Green Monty environment area.

Potty training, weaning and all other progressive activities are approached with sensitivity and care by our staff.

Comprehensive records are kept of your child’s sleeping pattern, nappy changes and eating habits. Diaries are used to exchange information and record your child’s daily events.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) begins in the Mini Montys' environment. To ensure that all those special moments are captured we keep a detailed record of observations, samples of work and children’s photographs in a unique ‘Montessori Learning Journey’.  These Learning Journeys help us to record your child’s development and progress here at the school.

Transition to Nursery

We ensure that the transition to the Nursery is a smooth one. The children’s key worker will accompany your child to their new Nursery class before they move. They will exchange information regarding routines, favourite activities etc. The child’s Montessori Learning Journey will also be passed on to the receiving Nursery. This ensures that the new key worker and receiving Nursery are fully aware of your child’s individual needs and stage of development.
